The GFA presented the hospital with a $15.8 million cheque, representing a record breaking first for the appeal and for CFA who contributed and collected a whopping $1.25 million of the total.
Around 300 supporters attended the event including CFA members from Redesdale, The Basin, Wendouree, Irymple, Sebastopol and Fish Creek brigades.
‘Digger Dave’ from Irymple Brigade even flew down to Melbourne for the event with his wife and presented Declan, the face of the 2012 GFA, with a CFA teddy and goody bag.
Our members also said farewell to retiring GFA Executive Director, Christine Unsworth and presented the Appeal with a framed ‘Spirit of CFA’ print to acknowledge the 60-plus years of partnership.
Christine has spent 16 years at the helm of the Appeal and has contributed immensely to the GFA, which funds ground-breaking research, family support staff positions and world-class equipment at the hospital.
Among other things, this year’s funds will enable the hospital to buy a combined PET/MRI imaging machine, which will significantly improve health outcomes for Victorian children.
Below are some pictures from the night.
