On Sunday afternoon members from Dunkeld and neighbouring brigade Strathmore, rolled in to the Dunkeld Fire Station for a ‘round robin’ training session.
Dunkeld Captain Brendan Gordon said with the changing community, it was essential that the brigade change with it.
“We need to make sure we have the correct skills to deal with whatever is thrown at us,” he said.
After a spate of house fires, the brigade has implemented a regular training schedule for their members to deliver a more efficient service to Dunkeld and the surrounding communities.
Members from both brigades participated in truck familiarisation and identified the Dunkeld brigade’s hydrants, established locations and practised how to use them. These hydrants have been getting a workout lately in the brigade’s regular fire calls.
All members also undertook a session on VicFire and how to notify VicFire when turning out.
After a cold and wet training session the members were pleased to have participated and now have a better understanding and updated skills for future turnouts.
