Hamilton Fitness Challenge Week 2

Monday, 23 July 2012

A steady number of members have continued to attend the gym each morning with more members joining in during the week. Members are enjoying the challenge and are looking forward to the week 3 fitness test to compare how well they are doing.

Today we have reports off two Fire Fighters taking part as well as a report from Gavin Owner/Manager of Hamilton Gymnasium.

Brigade Member Gavin Wray-McCann owner/manager Hamilton Gymnasium: Since becoming involved with Hamilton Fire Brigade I have been privileged to witness community minded individuals, who give up their time and are prepared to put their life on the line for the wellbeing of others in the community.  I have been quite overwhelmed with what I have witnessed and am grateful that my business allows me to give something back to the volunteers of Hamilton Fire Brigade.  The challenge is not just about physical output but is about team and morale building and recognition for these individuals that give so much and don’t get or expect anything in return. It is sure to be challenging and fun.  Great people do great things and they go unheralded, these are great people.

Fire Fighter Nathan Appledore: Well day 4 of 18 or start of week 2 of 6, however you wish to look at it. The 0600hrs starts are getting better with each wakeup call by the alarm clock and with all the positive vibes around the gym when you walk in is brilliant to see.  With the abbs work out on the second day, last week I was feeling a bit sore and sorry for myself, however after day 3 I was feeling better. This morning when I walked in I was wondering how many I would see, as there was a 2am wake up call for some and others rolled over and went back to sleep, despite this wakeup call it was great to see so many of them at the gym.  So some more breathe in through the nose and out the mouth from Gav, with the added comment that fire does not just stop for you, so recompose and go at it again and change to the next station. We are all really getting into it by now then all of a sudden he was sending us on our way it’s over for today, and see you Wednesday.

Fire Fighter Frances Perry: Whilst not everyone has enjoyed the early wake ups, or the initial muscle soreness, everyone has been enjoying the gym program - evident by the continued high number of fellow fitness enthusiasts!  After overcoming the initial shock of the 5:30am alarm screaming at me, I've been loving the sessions which have left me feeling energetic and enthusiastic (once my face returns to its normal colour after trying to replicate a fire truck).  Last Friday I felt full of life afterwards and went off to school feeling invincible
and ready to tackle year 12 maths!  Thanks again to Gav for the motivation and allowing us all to participate in this wonderful challenge.  Bring on week 2!
